restricting the 7960 SIP load to one codec only

Does anyone know of a way to restrict the 7960 IP phone to sending only one codec in the SDP. i know the phone has a parameter called "prefered codec", but i have noticed that setting that parameter to one fot he available codecs (18, 0, 8) only bumps up the priority of that codec, but it doesn't prevent the remaining codecs from being listed subsequently. i am trying to get the phone to send only one codec type in the SDP field of the INVITE. How do i do that?

Short answer is no, it will always offer 3, as you say prefered will change the order and doing that should be telling the other end to use that one if it can following the offer/answer model for sdp as defined in rfc3264.
