SIP/H.323. between MeetingPlace and Cisco Unified Communications Manager

Looking at an architecture diagram for Cisco UC - I noticed that MeetingPlace uses for SIP / H.323 to talk to Cisco Communications Manager. Does anyone know what this is used for?

Does the SIP interface share user presence? Or does it only provide the ability to dial out to participants in a web conference?

The SIP/H.323 trunk is used to make/receive voice and video calls to/from MeetingPlace.

I'm not aware of it using any particular presence functionality.... it's just voice and video telephony to get access to the meetings.
