SIP Proxy server

Cisco SIP Proxy Server ver2.2 starts supporting Linux and Solaris OS. Do I need Call Manager to run with the SIP Proxy Server? Or can I purely setup a VoIP envirnoment with SIP, so Cisco SIP Proxy Server ver2.2 and the necessary Cisco SIP gateway will be enough?

Does Cisco has any plan to run Call Manager on Linux or Solaris in future? Thanks.
