I am getting the common, "An unrecognized error has occurred...(etc)" When I look in my event log I see an application error "Assertion failed: SUCCEEDED(hr) in File: h:\commsvr\Sources\SA\avsadbconn\AvSaDohObject.cpp at Line: 2317" I am running Unity 2.4.6.126. Logging in as a Domain/Exchange admin, with Unity administrative priveledge. <br>The only change I made was to run the DirectoryWalker Util. to remove a subscriber that the Exchange admin on this network was kind enough to delete from exchange before removing the Unity account. DBWalker ran successfully, except now I can not add any more users from the SA, either by importing and existing exchange account, or creating new. I CAN import using the Bulk Impot Utility however.<br>Anybody encountered this error/problem before before?<br><br>I am also seeing this error in the even viewer: <br>"Exception occurred and handled in File: h:\commsvr\Sources\SA\avsadbconn\AvSaDohObject.cpp at Line: 2758 - Error: 80004005H Call stack: <br>0x5DEB8BDD AvSaDbConn.dll: DllUnregisterServer + 483634 bytes<br>0xFEDCBA98 : : <br>0x89ABCDEF : : <br>0x77D5BCA0 RPCRT4.dll: TowerConstruct + 582 bytes"<br><br>Anyone?<br><br>--Cael

Well... first, we can be pretty sure this has nothing to do with dbWalker. Even if it went wild in your directory it wouldn't touch rights at the NT/Exchange level and wont (can't) remove NT/Exchange accounts, only Unity specific properties on Exchange accounts. It, in fact, doesn't care about NT accounts being present at all. It's always tempting to blame the last thing done on the current problem... I understand that. Not the case here.
The error you're getting is from much deeper than Unity properties. My first guess would be the account associated with our services (i.e. all the AVxxx services in the SCM, not the account you're logged in as) has had a right yanked somewhere along the line.
Can you sign in as THAT account and run SysCheckPreinstall on the box? If that doesn't turn up anything the next place to go is to turn on some DOH/MAL traces and try the creation again. This will give you some more detailed errors about what's failing along the line so we can narrow it down. The error in the event log is just a generic "something failed" error which is really annoying. The AvSaDbConn is the DLL the SA goes through to do just about everything, so it doesn't tell us much... we gotta go to the guy it was calling (in this case the DOH) to figure out where the failure is happening.

Did this ever get resolved I am having the same problem
02-05-2002 04:01 AM
I, too am having this problem. Any results or further tests to try? I had deleted the services accoutn and re-created them, (I went through this with TAC) and all has been OK with Unity until we tried to add a user.

any resolution to this problem? we upgraded to v3.1.3 from v2.4.6 a few weeks ago and have had no problems adding subscribers until now. at time of installation we did rerun the configuration utility without uninstalling it first, to point to another exchange server. here is a couple of the event viewer entries:

When I check the line numbers I find this error is due to SA not getting the
servers list (Directiry connector). This can happen due to logon permissions.
This can also happen in simpler cases like when SA does not get the mailstore type -Want to know if you are exchange 55 or exchange 2k?
06-27-2002 05:38 PM
They're running 2.4.6... Exchange 2K isn't supported until 3.0(1) or later.

The SA folks took at look at the error here and indicate there may be a problem with the default subscriber template being used to create the subscriber (i.e. it's referencing a call handler that's not there). Can you run the latest dbWalker tool off of AnswerMonkey.net or the CCO Utilities page on here real quick? I'm interested to see if it picks up and cross linked or missing references:
http://www.answermonkey.net/App_DirectoryWalker.htm
If need be we can reconstruct the default objects but be aware this will write over all the default objects build (the opening greeting, operator call handler, say good bye, default interview handler). I'd rather actually get into your system via WTS if possible and take a look at what the template(s) actually look like if possible.

someone else from our group opened a tac case and here is there response:
>Subject: Case C851305 - UNITY : Trouble Adding New Unity Subscribers
>........
>Good afternoon. I will be assisting you with this case, can you please try the >following.
>re-register this dll AvSaDbConn.dll from a command prompt [on the box and >not through TS] in the directory where this dll is located, run regsrv32 >AvSaDbConn.dll
>This should fix the issue.
we performed the reregister and rebooted since we had a bunch of hung ports. we have had no problems with the adding subscribers since then.
do you still want the dbwalker output?
06-30-2002 11:57 AM
well, if you haven't had any problems since then I don't expect the dbWalker output to shed any light on the issue... interesting that the DLL had to be reregistered, wonder what happened there.
07-10-2002 09:22 AM
Do you have to use the installation account or the local admin account to reregister this DLL file?
07-10-2002 10:15 AM
As long as the account you're logged in as has full read/write access to the registry (which both those accounts should have) you should be able to regsvr32 a DLL no problem.
