Use MRTG to monitor 6608 Ports

I have a 6608 blade in our Cat6509 with two T1 ports setup as T1-CAS ( for our old phone system) and two ports setup as T1-PRI (connection to the TelCo). Is it possible to use MRTG to monitor the channel usage on those ports?

Why not use the real-time monitoring tool built into Call Manager?

I thought about that. I was hoping to get some history gathered to chart peek times and such. I dont see a way to do that with the tool in CallManager.

You should be able to do collect the same counters in Performance Monitor. You can log those to a csv file periodically.

I would have to concur that in my experience perfmon has nothing on a good MRTG or RRDTool config for history purposes - I too would love anyone who has configs on this or any other PRI interfaces on other Cisco routers :-)

We monitor two 6608 blade with PRIs using MRTG grabbing stats from a Perfmon--> CSV file. The purpose of this was to ascertain DS0 usage on the individual PRIs. While MRTG can give you a general overall view of usage, the five minute sampling period is the limiting factor. When I set up a separate Perfmon monitor using a 15 second sampling interval, it became clear that usage spikes were very high (22 DSOs on each PRI) and that these spikes were not showing up on the MRTG graphs (only 10 DS0s max). So we needed to add PRIs to the 6608.

So in this case, Perfmon does in fact have an advantage over MRTG, in terms of troubleshooting short term high usage.

Having said all this, I would still like to know if there is an OID for DS0 usage on either the 6500/6608, or the Call Manager which would make this process easier.

Which Preformance Object did you use to show the active DS0 count?

On the Call Manager Subscriber, I poll the Cisco MGCP Gateways object and the PRI Channels Active counters (Instance). These are named/listed by MAC address. There should be instances for each PRI Gateway.
