Seek to know the difference between a VG200 and an ATA187.Can both be used to connect analog phones thus converting them in to IP telephones?

Hi Sumesh,
Both the VG200 series and ATA187's support the connection of Analog endpoints
to the IP network as you nicely noted. You can check out the specs in the Data
Sheets linked below
Cisco VG200 Series Gateways
Cisco ATA 187 Analog Telephone Adaptor
Cheers!

Rob sent you the detailed info and I'll give you a brief compare/contrast:
ATA 187 replaces the older ATA 186 devices. ATA 187 has been updated quite a bit and, of the two (versus the VG2XX option) is a cheaper solution. It is essentially an analog adapter for analog phones and faxes that leverages SIP to communicate with CUCM.
VG202, VG204 - these are like mini VG224 (24 port FXS analog gateways). They offer the same capability to connect analog phones and faxes to the IP network but they are IOS-based devices with some enhancements and obviously less port density than the bigger, brother-like device. They are more expensive than the 187 but, in many cases, may be more versatile based on your needs.
Read the detailed documentation and it'll sort it self out.
