Voice E1 errors

I have an E1 going to PSTN on a 2621 XM router. I am getting a lot of the following errors. Line Code Violations and Path Code Violations. I have checked the Cisco site but the explanation is not very useful

Bipolar Violation (BPV) Error Event

A BPV error event for an alternate mark inversion (AMI)-coded signal is the occurrence of a pulse of the same polarity as the previous pulse. A BPV error event for a B8ZS- or HDB3- coded signal is the occurrence of a pulse of the same polarity as the previous pulse without being a part of the zero substitution code.

Excessive Zeroes (EXZ) Error Event

An EXZ error event for an AMI-coded signal is the occurrence of more than fifteen contiguous zeroes. For a binary 8-zero substitution (B8ZS) coded signal, the defect occurs when more than seven contiguous zeroes are detected.

Line Coding Violation (LCV) Error Event

An LCV is the occurrence of either a Bipolar Violation or Excessive Zeroes error event.

Path Coding Violation (PCV) Error Event

A PCV error event is a frame synchronization bit error in the D4 and E1-no cyclic redundancy check (CRC) formats, or a CRC error in the Extended Super Frame (ESF) and E1-CRC formats.

Does anybody have a better explanation? Could this relate to clock issue?

Cheers

Could you post your running-config? I have seen similar errors that were to do with clocking

Thanks

Hi,

If you have an AIM card, don't forget to configure from where it should take the clocking:

network-clock-participate wic 0

network-clock-select 1 E1 0/0

Hope, this helps you,

/Martin

I had the same problem before, and here is what i was told:

If these routers have an AIM-voice-30 card and a T1 VWIC, add the following commands -

network-clock-participate wic 0

network-clock-select 1 t1 0/0

Assumes the T1 is in slot 0. If it is in slot 1 , make them as follows :

network-clock-participate wic 1

network-clock-select 1 t1 0/1

Without these commands, the AIM card does not sync itself to the clock signal that is recovered off the T1 line, so it essentially free runs, and can cause big problems with fax and modem calls. For normal voice calls the clock slips are generally imperceptible.

The details are on this thread:

Seems to be you have a framing mis-match/clocking problem (clocksource line) and may need to confirm settings and conditions of your circuit with your Telco.

Here are some links that you may find useful.

Regards,

Amador.-

looks like a framing or clock error. Its normal to take the clock from the line, you have it set to internal.
