Hi,
Designing a Data centre mainly revolve around business requirement, industry standard and new technology offerings.
All revolve around small, mid and large range scale for DC designing , and based on that fact devices are been deployed.
Cisco recommends 3 tier architecture with Core,Aggregation and Access in most of the design or Collapsed Core architecture for mid range customers.
Nowadays SDN is evolving with spine and leaf concepts for most scalble and efficient way of designing.
I would recommend start with CCDA on methodology , trigger which align with business need for three tier architecture.
