Data Center Interconnect for Active/Standby Design

Hi DC Experts,

We have 2 small scale DCs deployed in 2 geographically separate sites. Hyperconverged Vmware clusters in both sites. The full scenario is:

  • More than 400km separates both sites
  • RTT is more than 15ms
  • No live migrations
  • Connecting link bandwidth not likely to be more than 105Mbps (i.e  an L3 ptp from service provider)
  • Asynchronous replication (via Vsphere Replication or Netapp Snapmirror)
  • All services expected to be local in both DCs (except Active Directory sync/replication from PDC to SDC)
  • The core is Nexus 3600 configured in vPC mode in DC1 and a single Nexus 3600 in DC 2
  • The edge device in both sites would be ISR2911

So my question really is whats the most simple and effective way to get both sites talking over an L3 PTP from service provider? Is a type of VPN required over the link, maybe per security? If yes what type? I don't have VXLANs, OTV configured and don't know much about them but can read up on them if required. Just in need of expert help please!

Regards

First option i can think of only OTV here since the provider giving Laye3 link here :

ISR also can be used to deploy OTV - worked on higher models -  ISR2911 - is end of Life ( so Look for ASR or ISR new model, which has feature support of OTV).

Ok thanks a lot.

But any other options one may consider? Someone mentioned L2tpvpn? Not so familiar with that but willing to learn, just need the most simple and straight forward solution. Also, stuck with ISR2911 for now, though it should be changed in a few months.
