I have a question , on the 3550 when you configure trunking and vtp how come none of this stuff shows up when you do a "show running config" and how does this get saved to a tftp server if it doesn't show up in the running config ? Am I missing something here .?

Trunking should be in the startup config. VTP information is saved in the VLAN.dat file(do a dir flash: to see this file)

How do you back up the config if everything is not in the running config ? What would you do if you have to replace a switch and everything is not in the startup config file ? We are using a tftp server as our backup .

You could back up the VLAN.dat file too

Seems like a inefficient way of doing things , I'll take Cat OS for general switching , at least everything was in one file when saving the config .

That is the only way you can do it in XL's/2950's/3350's :(
