We currently are attempting to use the CISCO 3550 Switch as the head switch in our outlying buildings.
There are two Gb connectors in the switch.
One is to be used as a connection to the 6509 in the NOC and the other to a downstream Gb switch.
We can only get one GBIC to connect the other will not. If we swap connections the sync is fine. Both GBIC's are ok.
Any ideas why we cannot connect to both Gb connectors at the same time.
I would expect out of the box this would work.

Did you verify the gbics are the same on both ends ?

GBIC have to be the same LX/LH to LX/LH and if attached to an non cisco or router must use speed non on the GE ports.
