When issuing the NO SWITCHPORT command on a 4500 the switch hangs. The only workaround at the mement is to shut the interface down before changing processing layer on the interface.

What IOS are you running.. Are you able to recreate it everytime. I tested in lab and it works fine.

I tried it with EWA1 as well and it works fine. What kind of interface are you issuing "no switchport" under. What other config does it have?

Probably not related to your problem but we ran 12.2(25)EWA1 for a couple of hours. Found CPU running about twice normal - we hit a bug (cannot remember the number).
Now running 12.2(20)EWA1 without a problem so far.
