I just took over a 7206 router from a previous administrator and I cant get the console port to work. I've connected to it with port adapters, and open hyperterm with the usual (9600,8n2 vt100, hardware buffering) and nothing comes up on the screen. I also tried using procom plus and it still wouldn't open. changed cables, adapters, etc.
the only way I can get into the router is to telnet into it. and the previous admin does not know the password (but I know what to do for that)
Has anyone had this proble before, is the console port turned off somehow. This has really got me scratching my head.
thanks Greg

Greg,
I would change your settings on your port speed to 115200 (Hyper-Term or CRT). I have a friend that had the same issue with a 3640 and the config register was set to something than the standard.(that caused the port speed to be bumped up). If that fixes the problem go and look at your config reg and reset to the standard 0x2102 (if that is the way you want your router to boot).
Good luck!

If anyone cares I figured the problem out. The DB9 to RJ-45 adapter had a recessed socket. I changes it out and everything works great.
thanks Greg
