800 series startup-config won't load

ok this is my first day using cisco routers and i have to setup a bunch of them. all 800's

my problem:

i get the router all set up, jsut the way i want.

(looks good from the terminal, and the CRWS)

running-config == startup-config

but if i reload or restart the router it's unresponsive, so i go to a terminal and i see:

"

--- System Configuration Dialog ---

Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes/no]:

"

if i pick yes, i overwrite the config and start over.

so i pick no, but then i'm not running the startup-config.

how do i get it to load correctly?

please don't flame me if it's obviouse, i've spent hours in the docs online here ;)

thanks

Did u do a "write terminal" after your configurations? Or a "copy running-config startup-config"?

All configuration changes u make at run time affects the running-config.

You need to manually issue the above mentioned commands to have the running-config copied onto the startup-config, in which the startup-config is saved in nvram. At each startup/reload of the router, after the ios has been loaded, the router will run the config from the nvram to load it up.

HTH!

yup.

tried 'write terminal', 'copy running-config startup-config', and set it up from the CRWS wich writes its setup to startup-config.

startup-config always looks ok, it just doesn't load it

its still waits on the "initial configuration dialog"

same result if i reset to the factory default startup via CRWS or the terminal

solved:

reset config register to point to correct file
