Does anyone know if (and if "yes" how) to have the switchports on 6513 switches auto disable themselves after a period of time if there is no activity. We have a lot of connections to our 6500 series switches that are inactive and are looking at how best to find out which ones they are.
Thanks,
Ted

Hi Ted,
i don't know au automatic shutdown of interfaces. But when you use 802.1x in your network you will have the same effect. Clients have only access to your network when they are identify through a secure server (radius, acs). Another soultion could be port security. But with port security you allowed only some specific PC's to a specific port.
So I recommend you 802.1x.

I don't know of an easy way to find unused switch ports. You probably could use something like MRTG to find ports with 0 input packets for the last
- clear counters
and then
- sh port mac
to find ports with Rcv-Unicast = 0
