Is it possible to set the delay between update messages for BGP on Cisco boxes?
If so how?
thanks

Hi,
BGP uses update messages (different to periodic keepalives) to exchange prefix/attributes information just after session establishment or when a topology change/updates occur. In that sense there are no "periodic" updates (hence timers) to control as with some other protocols.
I hope to have understood your question correctly.
Regards.

Thank you
I would like set the delay between the update messages. So for example if the router needs to send 20 update messages to complete the route transfers, i would like to be able to set a delay of 200ms between each update.
Also can you set the maximum number of routes per update?

you could look at the neighbor command - there is an update interval on that, but the minimum is a second.
Are intial updates causing a problem on bandwidth? If so you could look at queueing/QoS to help there as well.
