Bridging across the WAN

Hi Sir

I have one router with one Ethernet connection to a switch. I configured subinterfaces to carry multiple VLANs (encapsulation dot1q); basically it's a "router on a stick". But I don't configure IP addresses because i'm not going to do inter-VLAN routing.

Then I have a serial link to a remote router. I'd like to carry traffic from the Ethernet VLANs across this WAN link. Can you kindly let me know the technique to accomplish this?

Thank you.

B.Rgds,

Lim TS

You should configure briging. As you do not supply very much information in your question, I will hope/assume that transparent bridging may solve your problem. Please have a look at the following URL, yeah that's a lot of reading. Bridging is not as easy as it seems.

Personally, I would prefer a routing-based solution as it makes better use of available WAN-bandwidth.
