Now I have tried the Software Adviser - except I don't understand if there is any compatable upgrade IE what the latest release is for this system. I know I need a IOS and OS.

What I'm having trouble with is the software advisor is throwing up 5.X 6.X 7.X 8.x. So can I just dump the latest release of 8.X - why are there some many choices?

Do I need to buy a new license ?? and which IOS is compatable with the OS - that isnt shown.

Any help on this matter would be really appreciated!

Thanks for any help

Ed

Hi ED,

You are running Cat OS version 5.5(8) on your Sup. You can upgrade it to Cat OS earlier than 7.5(1) due to DRAM limitaion. Cat OS later than 7.5(1) are supoorted with 128 MB dram and your Sup has 64 MB Dram.

There are 5.x,6.x7.x and 8.x series with the feature enhancements. For upgrading the CAT OS you willneed a CCO login to download the Cat OS.

Please check the following link for memory requirement, Bootflash, Boot rom and feature as well.

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/relnotes/ol_1982.htm#wp20785

You can use the same link for Cat OS upgrade.

Wow thanks for the fast reply - do I need to buy a license or is this included with the orinigal license we got with the system ? Could I go all the way to 8.x if I got the upgrade with a license problem ?

Also what about the router - does this automatically upgrade or do I still need to work out what goes on that ?

Thanks for your help

Ed

Unless you have a reason to upgrade to 7.x or 8.x, I suggest that you upgrade to 6.4(17) which is a general deployment release and there is no need to upgrade DRAM on the Supervisor for this release. The release notes are at

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/relnotes/78_11235.htm

The MSFC IOS needs to be upgraded separately. 12.1(13)E16 should be good in terms of bug fixes and security vulnerability fixes.

Software upgrades are normally part of service contracts. You can download both CAT OS and the MSFC IOS from

http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/lan/cat6000.shtml

Thanks again for the fast reply.

I have no magor reason to upgrade - I just want to stay upto date. Thou having better ACL commands would be nice on the router part. At present you have to retype the ACL list if you wish to change something from what I understand.

We dont have a Service Contract anymore - we are edu charity org and therefore don't have any money to keep such contracts in place. Does this mean we are not covered for new software are we license for the upgrade ?

Thanks

Ed

Ed,

You should have a service contract in order to get the CCO downloads and other softwares.

Try to get it from your collegue or any friends who has the CCO login and may be he can help you.
