Hi:
I've got a 2900XL Catalyst which I'm wanting to configure using Rate-limit and Access-list commands.
Currently I access the switch using browser access & a password.
Telnet access has been disabled by my boss (for security).
If I try to telnet into the switch from the browser access using the "Telnet" link, I'm informed that a "password is required but not set".
When I go to the Web Console in my browser, I cannot use the "enable" command (to get into privileged mode) and the "rate-limit" command is not available to me.... probably because I'm not in privileged mode.
Am I required to telnet into the switch for privileged access to it, or should I be able to do so from the web console?
Be grateful for any answer.

becuase your boss has disabled telnet for security reason you will not be able to telnet to the switch, it needs login and password set on the vty settings. sorry

So then I AM required to telnet into the switch to to use configuration commands. Are you confirming that I can't issue config commands from the web interface?

You need enable password of the XL switch to get into the web interface
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/59.html#webinterface
Also the 2900XL does not support rate-limit or access-lists

Thanks for your response.
I never thought to verify what my specific switch supported.
Seems I'll have to find another way to limit bandwidth (Linux).
