Can the catOS on a supervisor1A be upgraded independantly of the ios on an msfc. I am currently running 6.1(1b) and want to upgrade to 8.1(1) or 8.2(1).
Also on the msfc i have read that you must have a boot image in bootflash in addition to the full ios image, the ios upgrade disk that i got from cisco included only the new ios but with no boot image so do i need a boot image and if so is the old boot image ok to use with the new ios.
existing images are:
c6msfc2-boot-mz.121-2.E
c6msfc2-ds-mz.121-2.E.bin
new image is:
c6msfc2-dsv-mz.121-19.E.bin or i could use
c6msfc2-dsv-mz.121-8b.E15.bin
any comments appreciated

CAT OS and MSFC IOS are independent for most part. If you do not need features of 8.x, I would suggest that you stay in 6.x and upgrade to 6.4(7). Also note that 7.5(1) and higher releases need 128MB DRAM on Sup
MSFC2 does not need a boot image

Many thanks, i need at least 7.5 to support the new copper gigabit modules but 7.x release is end of sale so have to buy 8.x software.
I have already done a memory upgrade to 128mb.
thanks again
