Cat6513 Supervisor Upgrade

Has any one tried to insert a Sup720 in slot 7 of a 6513 while there are active Sup2/MSFC2s in slots 1 and 2. We are going to be upgrading two 6513s, and I was hoping to get most of it, or possibly all of it done without a power down.

I suggest you plan on down time. The Sup2 architecture is different then the new CEF720 design. We did some upgrades to our 6509's and we found that we needed to also have the High Speed Version of the Fan Card (WS-C6K-9SLOT-FAN2) My guess would be that you need to ensure you have the 6513 version of it (WS-C6K-13SLT-FAN2), you should talk to someone in TAC.

The fan tray issue is a given. They can be swapped in real time with no down, as long as it is done quickly. We have already replaced a defective fan tray in this fasion.

TAC does not support the upgrade as I have outlined it. Just because it is not supported does not mean it will not work.

Thanks for the input. Once the parts arrive I still plan on testing the upgrade path in the lab.
