after a power failure the catalyst 4006 supervisor II engine boots to rommon only.
i downloaded a new catos image and still boot to rommon .and this type of catalyst doesnot have an external flash or a xmodem command to download the new image to the catalyst it has only few commands.
and it is not the configuration register because it is 0x2102 ...so any help

please have a look at the show boot and the set command . and tell me if there is any thing wrong with it
rommon 16 >show boot
BOOT variable = bootflash:cat4000.6-4-8.bin,1;
Configuration reg is 0x2
ignore-config: disabled
console baud: 9600
boot: image specified by the boot system commands
autoboot state = 0
autoboot count = 0
autoboot sptr = 0

Is version 6.4.8 the image you have in bootflash and that you are trying to load? If you do a dir bootflash: it should show version 6.4.8 . If you have any other image I would just get rid of it . If you put in a boot statement make sure the syntax is exact, copy and paste the filename out of the dir bootflash: .
I would do a clear boot system all command to get rid of any boot statements that may have already been in the config . Should be "set boot system flash bootflash:cat4000.6-4-8.bin

yes it is the only image i have in the boot flash.
the show bootflash: command shows only the cat4000.6-4-8.bin
and i have done the clear boot command and the set boot system flash bootflash:cat4000.6-4-8.bin
but still the same

0x2 means to boot from bootflash because it is equal to the command
set boot config-register boot bootflash

Maybe you can do a Dir on the prompt and see what images you have. from there I think you can boot manually.

when i do the dir bootflash: it shows only the image cat4000.6-4-8.bin and i can download any other image to the catalyst with the following
1- boot -xv catos-image
this will only copy the image from the tftp server to the tmp: device on the catalyst ..
2- copy tmp:catos-image bootflash:
this command will copy the image from the tmp: device to the bootflash:
because this is the only way i can use.
3- boot bootflash:catos-image
this will make the catalyst to boot from the bootflash:

If you have set your boot statement to point to the 6.4.8 image and set your config register to 0xf then to be honest I am out of ideas on what could be wrong . This setup works on literally hundreds of boxes in our environment .

You should try bootloading from the TFTP server, as detailed in this document. Follow the procedure to the letter; don't modify it.
What happens when you do that?
If that does not work, then you have these possibilities, none of which can be fixed without direct intervention:
1. Your 4006 is broken
2. Your TFTP service is broken
3. The file you have on your TFTP server is corrupt.

i tried that before and i tried it just now .and what i can see after the switch upload the image from the tftp server to the ram it do a reset ...i dont know why.?
the switch was working fine before the power was up and down for many times in one day. and after the this power failure the switch only boot to rommon.
and i dont think the image is corrupt because i have many images like cat4000.6-1-2.bin and cat4000.6-4-8.bin and cat4000.6-4-9.bin and cat4000.6-1-1.bin and i tried all of them and they all do the same
please if you can tell me what tthe ResetCause=198 means ... because and i apply the command set ....i can see the line
ResetCause=198 and i searched all the net and all the cisco web site and i couldnot find any thing about it.

I'm afraid I think your 4006 is broken, but I don't know which component. I think you will have to ask Cisco's advice.
A couple of useful documents I stumbled across while I was searching:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps663/products_tech_note09186a00801434de.shtml
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/121.html
OK, here is a last desperate long-shot. Try these commands (at your own risk) in the rommon, then try your TFTP again. I got them from the description of the workaround for bug CSCds20644. They should clear down the rommon environment variables:
> unset TmpfsAddr
> unset TmpfsSize
> unset TmpfsDirectorySize
> unset DiagFreePageLimit
> unset ResetCause

when i do the
> unset TmpfsAddr
> unset TmpfsSize
> unset TmpfsDirectorySize
> unset DiagFreePageLimit
> unset ResetCause
and try to boot the image i got the following
Unable to boot image, perhaps it was damaged during download?
but iam sure that the image is not corrupt before the download. and this type of catalyst doesnot have the xmodem command so as to check for the crc and i dont know if there is any other way to download the image to the catalyst.

Do you get that when you follow the procedure I gave you for booting directly from the TFTP server, without downloading it into flash first? Regardless of which image you are loading?
Unsetting the rommon environment variables will reset the format of the boot variables in NVRAM, and possibly the file format in flash. It will not be any good for booting from flash.
The Catalyst does not have an XMODEM, but it does have enough functionality in the rommon to boot directly from the TFTP server. Once you have the switch running on the directly loaded TFTP image, then you can use that to load the image into flash.

what i have done is
1- del bootflash:cat4000.6-4-8.bin
2- squeeze bootflash:
3- clear boot
4-
unset TmpfsAddr
unset TmpfsSize
unset TmpfsDirectorySize
unset DiagFreePageLimit
unset ResetCause
5- boot cat4000.6-4-8.bin
and the number 5 means to boot from the TFTP server and after that i got the following
rommon 13 >boot cat4000.6-4-8.bin
4:38.248531: Loading file 192.168.10.1:cat4000.6-4-8.bin
