I have CD One 2nd Edition installed on a Windows NT 4.0 Server with SP 5. When i connect to the Cisco Works 2000 Server the Login Manger doesn´t appear in my browser, so i can´t login. I´ve checked the settings and requirements of my IE 5.5 browser every thing looks fine. There are no error messages on the server or on the client! Any Idea?
HW: Compaq ML 370, Dual Processor, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB Hard drive
SW: WIN NT 4.0 SP5 english, IE 5.5 SP2, CD One 2nd Edition

How are yuo trying to connect to the CW2K server, using localhost?. Make sure that you use the ip address of the server and not localhost to connect, htp://

Hi there,
I had similar problems when I have started with CISCO Works 4th Edition.
There are a couple of things to check.
- What are the results of a DNS lookup (forward and reverse) on the server?
Start a sniffer and have a look what happens at the server when you try to login
with a client: The server must be able to resolve the clients name to an IP
address and must be able to resolve the clients ip address from it's name.
Forward and Reverse DNS lookups MUST work. Otherwise you run in
endless timeouts.
- US-english server installed? The only thing that is allowed to be non-english
is the keyboard layout.
- Check proxy settings at the browser ("no proxy") is OK. Don't use this
automatic setting of IE.
- What about firewalls between your client and the server that block specific
ports?
- Stop and restart JrunProxyService in the WINDOWS service panel and try
to login again.
- If your server has poor hardware resources: Reboot the machine and
let it works for 24 hours without loging in!
- Sounds strange but works sometimes: Contact the server with it's
DNS name or IP address and if no login prompt appears after one
minute or so start a second session from another client while being
online with the first one. :-)
If you follow the installation instructions STRICTLY and if you have a
working DNS server running in your net and if CW has been installed BEFORE
the server's and client's names and IP addresses have been added to
the DNS servers database AND if the installation has brought NO SINGLE
error or even a warning AND if you have only ONE JAVA JRE installed on
your client .... (ufff) then CW will work.
Bye. Thomas.
