Clearing the VLAN Database

bourse

In the Cisco docs, it says that to reset a 3550 switch to factory defaults, you should use the command "write erase". This does set the config back to the factory default but the VLAN database is still intact along with the VTP configuration. Is there a way to reset the VLAN database to factory default (not just deleting the VLANs one by one)?

Thanks!

You can delete the vlan.dat file and reload

cs-C3550-24-FX-SMI-42b#dir flash:

Directory of flash:/

2 -rwx 0 Jan 01 1970 00:01:18 env_vars

3 -rwx 351 Jan 01 1970 00:01:18 system_env_vars

5 -rwx 856 Mar 01 1993 16:15:53 vlan.dat

6 -rwx 1469 Mar 01 1993 02:06:08 config.text

9 drwx 192 Mar 01 1993 00:02:58 c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-0.326.EA1

15998976 bytes total (11639808 bytes free)

cs-C3550-24-FX-SMI-42b#delete flash:vlan.dat

Delete filename [vlan.dat]?

Delete flash:vlan.dat? [confirm]

cs-C3550-24-FX-SMI-42b#reload

Yup that worked. Thanks!
