I tried to configure ip address on an ESW interface and got this message: % IP addresses may not be configured on L2 links. Is there a work around this? How do i get to use this interface.

hi
AFAIK you can configure SVI and assign ip address to that.once you are up with that then make the l2 ports to be the member of that particular vlan.

Hi,
I have a cisco857 and I cannot setup an IP in any fastethernet address. I get the same msg
'IP addresses may not be configured on L2 links'.
Can not we put an IP in a f0 interface?
Thank you.

Hi royalblues,
thank you for reply, I will post the config tomorrow.

Hi,
With my 857 I achieve it creating a VLAN or just assigning to VLAN1 the ethernet interfaces.
