Connecting 2 ASA 5525-X devices

I am trying to connect 2 ASA 5525-X devices, one pure firewall and one pure IPS with Firepower services.  I was wondering if I needed to create a new P2P IP addresses to connect the two together?  or if the data is purely pass through.  I know that the device is capable of both, but the configuration that we have to meet requires the two.
