Console to New Cisco Catalyst 2900 XL

I just open the 2 year old switch packing and trying to configure it through console port.I used a Rollover cisco given cable and hyperternial of Windows 2000 with required com port setting.But nothing is displaying on the screem and i couldn`t configure it.

Pls let me know.what would be the functions necessary to treat with first time power on Catalyst 2900 XL device.

What are the status lights on the box? Also are you able to use the same laptop/cable and console into another Cisco device?
