I have set up a CISCO 3640 as a RAS. This has 4 ordinary async modems, an 8 port BRI (NM-8B-S/T) and 6 Digital Modems (NM-6DM). I can dial into the async modems fine and authenticate without any problems. However with the digital modems I can never train-in successfully. I can tell from the debug info that the BRI port answers OK and passes the call to the digital modem. The digital modem says that it is training but never connects successfully. On the access PC side the training tone from the digital modem is very loud compared to an ordinary modem and does not seem to vary as much. Are there any commands which effect the training volume/behaviour of the digital modems? Any other ideas? (Debug info below)
Many thanks in advance, Dave

What kind of modem are you dialing in with? Could you possibly get the firmware rev from it?(ati1-11) Also get a "sh modem" and a "sh modem ver" from the 3600. If you are not running 2.7.3.0 on your micas...you should upgrade.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
It happens with at least 3 different client modems I have tried thus far, mostly pretty new, and they all do the same thing, so I am sure that it is nothing to do with the client modem.
The software is 2.7.2.0, so how do I go about getting an upgrade? We only purcahsed them December 2001 so should we be able to get it for free? What is the issue here?
Finally what is "sh modem" and a "sh modem ver"? I am afraid that you have lost me there.
Thanks again, Dave

While you can download the latest 2730 pw from software center on CCO, this could provide further help :

Dave,
Roland Shafer here...
I am looking to implement almost exactly the same configuration (I think), would you be able to send me the parts list you ordered? I would most gratefully appreciate it.
Thank you in advance :7)
