Extended VLANS

Can anyone tell me why extended VLANS (> 1024) are not supported by VTP? Is this a Cisco limitation?

We recently created a 12xx VLAN and wondered why it wouldnt propogate through to our other switches. Only after some reading did we discover why this was the case.

Unfortunately we couldnt find any information on why there is a limitation.

This was a limitation with older VTP implementation(extended VLANs were not supported when VTP was first designed). With VTP version 3, extended VLANs are supported
