Dear all,

i do have 3 2600 series, one 1750 and one 1650 routers for my lab experiments. all of them having WIC 2 T installed. other specifications are usual. one ethernet, one aux, console ports.

how can i connect to all of them, using a single telnet or console session to a main router. i have heard about comm. server. but all documents explains about connecting through sync/async connections.

in one of the 2600 series router i do have 2 WIC2T( which makes 4 smart serial connections)

please let em know.

regards

Mohammed

You can use reverse telnet where you connect a console cable from the aux port to the console port of the routers in a daisy-chain config , you then connect from the one to the other by issueing the telnet command with a specific port number. Here is an example :

You issue a show line command , the aux port is listed as port 5 on a 1750 for instance. You connect a console cable from the aux port of this router(R1) to the console port of the next router (R2). On the aux port of the router issue the following commands : Transport input all and no exec.

Issue a telnet command using an ip address local to r1 combined with the port number of the aux port plus 2000 fori nstance :

IP address 10.10.10.1 is a local ip on R1 the aux port is line number 5 so the command would be : telnet 10.10.10.1 2005.

The will allow you to connect to R2 via reverse telnet . You can do this for number of routers but be carefull of too many as it gets confusing.

ok i got it.

sorry but can you give me all commands that i have to do on both routers. i dont have any previous experience on such configurations..

thanks in advance.

Mohamed

Do you know how to move between these nested sessions, especially how to make one step back?

Hello

You can use a terminal server for such a lab setup - you probably get one quite cheep nowadays.

Basically you attach all your devices into this server and then attach a ethernet/serial connection into your lan for remote console administration access

Hi,
In the following video step by step process has been shown how to Connect Cisco Router or Switch using PuTTY and Console Cable as well as how to Change Text Color, Font Size, Background color permanently on PuTTY.

https://youtu.be/WQeAe8_vbLI

First Download and install PuTTY (emulator terminal software) from https://www.putty.org/

Step 1: Attach the DV9 Female end of Console cable with the DV9 Male end of the USB to DV9 Serial Converter and then connect the RJ54 connector end of the Console cable to the Cisco router or Switch.
First check the COM port number

Step 2: Check the COM Port number:
=> Go Device Manager->Port (COM & LPT)-> check USB Serial Port (COM port)

Step 3: Open Putty
-> Select Connection Type to "Serial"
-> in Serial Line change the COM port number exactly which we checked in step 2.
-> click open and a black window will appear and press Enter finally it will access the Cisco Device.
-> Type "enable" to go to privilege mode.
