Hi,
I have a 1811 router whose WAN interface is supplied (at the moment) via DHCP. How do I perform a release/renew on this interface?

just write "relese dhcp
And to renew "dhcp

Thanks,
Is this possible from SDM?
A related question: I would liek to use SDM to manage the router on an ongoing basis, but it does not seem to allow the same level of management as IOS. Am I wrong on this?
For example, how would I restart the router from SDM?

When I attempt to renew dhcp , I get the following error:
"Not in Bound State"
So I guess I need to bind it somehow? Could you please elaborate?

I assume you just typed...
"renew dhcp (interface)"
what is the full cisco error message?

The full command I submitted is:
"renew dhcp FastEthernet 0"
The full response from IOS is:
"Not in Bound State"
TIA

Hi Charlie,
Sounds like an interesting problem!
It appears that it is failing during the DHCP process. Is it possible to connect a PC directly to the WAN (without router) to make sure a PC can pick up an IP address?
The other options available will be putting a hub in between the WAN and the router and running a packet sniffer or running debug commands on the cisco router.
Can you also attach the output from
sh interface
sh running (just the interface config)
Thanks
Sarb
