HSRP

I have a Cat 6509 with 4xMSFC and connecting to a remote site Cat 3550-EMI

We have a new line between the 2 sites connted from switch to switch. I have configured the L3 on both switches and it is working fine.

My question is

I have used a x.x.x.x/30 so thereby only configuring one MSFC but i want to be able to use all 4xMSFC.

If I use x.x.x.x/29 i am able to get 6 ip addresses which I can then use on all the 4xMSFC. With this, I will eventually be getting an HSRP Address but all 4 MSFCinterfaces will be in the same subnet as the remote site. Will this work? Is it ok to do it like this.

Thanks

Dual chassis, Dual Sup/MSFC (2x6509=4xMSFC) L3 redundancy will work with HSRP, however it is very complicated for your routing and troubleshooting. It is recommended to use Single Router Mode (SRM) on each chassis (one active msfc, one standby msfc, matching the sups). You would still use HSRP for L3 redundancy on the vlans but only have to worry about 2 participating routers vs 4. In native mode you would have same since there is only one active sup anyway.
