Intervlan Routing with 2611XM

Is it possible to have the 2611XM to perform intervlan routing? Is the 2611XM platform able to support Fastethernet?

What is the major difference between the 2620 series and the 2610 series, apart from the memory and flash max?

Hello,

the 2611XM has two fixed 10/100BaseT Ethernet ports, which allow you to perform (ISL or 802.1Q) VLAN trunking and hence inter-VLAN routing.

The difference between the 2610 and the 2620 is that the 2610 has integrated 10BaseT ports, while the 2620 has integrated 10/100BaseT ports, see the specs below; also, the throughput of the 2620 is higher.

Cisco 2610

1 network module slot platform with 1-2 10BaseT Ethernet port(s) and 2 integrated WIC slots. Up to 15Kpps.

Cisco 2620

1 network module slot platform with 1-2 10/100BaseT Ethernet port(s) and 2 integrated WIC slots. Up to 25Kpps.

Intervlan requires a FE full duplex connection in order to work is that rite? So, having the 2610 which only runs on 10BaseT is not possible to do intervlan routing?

Only difference between 2611 and 2610 is the number of ethernet ports available rite?

Actually i'm trying to reason out whether i should get a 2611/2610 or a 2620. I thought of getting it for lab purposes.

Hello,

you are right, in order to perform inter-VLAN routing you need to have a trunk, and trunking on 10MB ports is only supported on the 3600 platform, not the 2600. So you need a FastEthernet interface on your 2600 platform. The 2610 and the 2611 both won´t do it.

Well i'm not so sure about the 2610XM model if the integrated Ethernet is able to run on a 100Mbps link. But the 2611XM has 2 integrated 10/100 that should be able to run on FE. Anyone to help judge?

I know this isn't related to original post, but going back to a previous comment.

You don't need to trunk to do intervlan routing. If you have two 10base-t interfaces you can connect a cable to each (each in their own respective vlan), adress each interface and then route between the two.

The 2610XM has 1 Fasthethernet port which is 10/100 Mbps.

The 2611XM has 2 10/100 FastEthernet ports.
