IOS upgrade for CAT6000-MSFC2

Does anyone know if Cisco IOS software that supports IP/IPX W/VIP for platform CAT6000-MSFC2

means that I will be able to have workstations running Novell client and

connecting to Novell servers which are located both in the same VLAN and

other VLAN(configuring Intervlan)?

I need this information because I looked for an IOS with IP/IPX feature for

this platform but I couldn´t find it only with IP/IPX W/VIP, so I would like

to know if this IPX W will work in this situation. If not, how could I have IPX

running in this platform?

Thanks in advance,

Marcelle.

If you have your Novel clients and server in the same VLAN, you will not be doing any intervlan IPX routing and hence do not need IP/IPX W/VIP feature set.

No. I have some Novel clients in other VLAN. For sure I need to configure Intervlan in the switch. Today, the router does this role(two different ethernet interfaces) but now we want to use the

WS-F6K-MSFC2 card in our CAT6506 to configure more VLANs. The IOS in this card is c6msfc2-is-mz.121-2.E

but with this IOS we are not able to configure ipx routing.

IPX W would work in this case?

Thanks again.

You are correct. With your existing image(IP only) on the MSFC2, you cannot configure IPX routing.

If you have a separate router doing IPX routing, it will work as long as the links between the switch and the router are carrying the VLANs in question and if you have configured IPX routing for the VLANs on the router

Sorry but I did not understand your suggestion.

I'd need to configure 5 VLAN interfaces on the MSFC2, all of theses VLANs would have Novell workstantions(users) only - the Novell server would be in another VLAN(servers VLAN). I will not be able to configure ipx networks on these VLAN interfaces.

I would be able to configure ipx network only on the router interface. Even if I have trunk between the router interface and the switch interface, how could the users on those VLANs get their ipx network? And I would not be able to configure ipx network on the switch interface that it'll connect to the router too.

Thanks again.

get c6msfc2-dsv-mz.121-20.E3.bin. This includes IP/IPX w/VIP, and has fix for SNMP vulnerbality.

Hi.

That's was my first doubt. This IPX W would works for what I need?

I mean, in feature descriptions IPXWAN is described as a protocol for transmitting IPX packets over WAN links using PPP.

I do not need to configure IPX on my MSFC2 card for WAN purpose. I need IPX configuration on this card because I would have Novel workstations in different VLANs that need to connect to the Novel server located in another VLAN. IPX W will work for this purpose (ipx routing among VLAN interfaces)?

Thanks again.
