ip address dhcp Question

I've got a 2621 that I need to have autoconfigure the IP address on one of it's interfaces using DHCP. When I put in the above command on one of the FastEthernet interfaces all that I get when I do 'show ip interface brief' is that the IP will be configured by DHCP, but isn't assigned. What do I have to do to get the router to go pull an address?

That is the only command you need on the interface over which the DHCP request will be sent. You do need a DHCP server accessable and configured to actually allocate the address.

Thanks for the quick reply. The problem is that it isn't working. I've got it hooked to a cable modem. When I give it a static IP address (one that will probally last for another day or so) the router can get out just fine. When I configure it for a DHCP address all I get is:

BellevueFire#show ip int b

Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Protocol

FastEthernet0/0 unassigned YES DHCP up up

Is there a delay before the router trys to get an address? Is there a way to check to see if it's received any DHCPOFFERs?

I did a debug all and saw the router trying to get an address. Then I saw the ISP offer one with:

Any ideas why it wouldn't have taken that one? Becuase I saw it say that it was asking for IP addresses three more times.

an IPL is an initial program load. What version of code are you running on the 2621? Have you run it thru the bug toolkit to verify it?

I'm running 12.2(8)T5. I haven't run it through bugcheck, because I don't have access to that.
