IP lite vs Lan Base 960-x/XR

Hi All,

I am quite new to networking and have been asked to pick between a 2960-X or XR.

Apart from the physical differences which are quite clear I have  a question regarding the difference between IP Lite and LAN Base licensing which I am struggling to find an answer to.... probably not searching for the right thing!

Does IP Lite support all of the features of LAN base?

If I am reading it correctly LAN lite has the least features (basic layer 2), LAN Base has advanced layer 2 and some layer 3 features, and IP lite has more layer 3 features than LAN base..... but does IP Lite have all the features of LAN base as well?

Any help is appreciated.

Adam

Adam,

Yes

IP-LITE includes LAN-BASE

LAN-BASE includes LAN-LITE

LAN-LITE is the least feature rich and hence cheapest

Adam,

Have a look through the 2960X/XR Q & As

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-2960-x-series-switches/qa_c67-728348.html

Its all about cost and licensing.

Lan-Lite Cheapest - aimed at small business etc

Lan-Base Middle priced - fine if you don't need a load of layer3 features

Ip-Lite Dearer - aimed at enterprise business etc who want layer3 features

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your reply, the Q & As were where my question really came from, in the chart for what is supported on what model it shows the XR supports IP Lite but has a no against LAN base.

So should I read that as the XR comes with IP Lite, which includes the the advanced Layer 2 features you would get with LAN base as well?

Many thanks Alex, I thought that should be the case but just over questioned it I guess.

Thanks again.
