module provision

This command is avaliable in 12.2(18)SXD4 - But I cannot find ANY reference to it on cisco.com, except for "show module provision" which is completly usless, due to the fact that it does not say anything as to what the outpur means.

I have a slight feeling this has a bearing on what the switch/router does when power fails, and in which order it will shutdown modules if not enough power is avaliable.

Anyone have any ideas ?

The module provision command is used to avoid the active interface configuration (IDB) in a slot

being lost when accidentally different kind of the line card is inserted in that slot.

Here is the description about this command

The first mode here will be called dynamic and the other first-insert.

The slot provisioning command should work as follows:

module provision slot dynamic/first-insert

dynamic

- any line card type is allowed

- IDBs for the last line card inserted are

kept after its removal

- when a different line card is inserted the

old IDBs are lost

first-insert

- only the line card of the type when a line

card is first inserted allowed in the slot

- any line card of a different type will not

be powered on

- this allows user to "protect" the config

from being lost when another line card is

inadvertently inserted

The default setting is dynamic.

Hope this helps.
