NBM - PASSIVE AND ACTIVE

Hi,

I wanted to know about NBM passive and active..what's the difference and is it necessary to activate the nbm passive or active in st2110 in broadcast network?

In NBM Passive mode, the devices within the network (such as IP cameras, video encoders, audio processors, etc.) do not actively advertise their presence or capabilities. Instead, they rely on external control systems to discover and manage them. This mode is suitable for environments where centralized control systems, such as broadcast controllers or media asset management systems, handle the discovery and configuration of devices.

In NBM Active mode, the devices actively advertise their presence and capabilities on the network. They use multicast DNS (mDNS) and DNS-SD (Service Discovery) protocols to announce their availability and service information. This mode allows for more decentralized and self-discovery of devices within the network, where control systems can dynamically discover and interact with the devices.

Now, whether to activate NBM Passive or NBM Active in an ST2110 broadcast network depends on the specific requirements and architecture of your network!

--NBM Passive: If you have a centralized control system or broadcast controller that handles device discovery and management, NBM Passive mode may be suitable. The control system will be responsible for discovering and configuring the devices, and they won't actively advertise themselves on the network.

--NBM Active: If you prefer a more decentralized approach where devices actively advertise their presence and capabilities, NBM Active mode can be beneficial. This allows for dynamic device discovery and can simplify the integration of new devices into the network.

Some networks may choose to have a combination of both modes depending on the specific requirements of different devices and control systems in the ecosystem.
