i am about to install openview on our network and since i have to lisence the software based on the ip address i wanted to know the best segment to put this device on. do i put it on vlan 1 which is also the native vlan for the trunks running back to the core or do i create a new vlan and place it on that segment. once i have the nms installed i plan to install cisco works to monitor the switches.

any suggestions would be great

Paul,

There are many documents on NMS Best Practices which might help you with this question in more detail. To answer, in short, it is advisable to separate management platforms from that of normal user platforms. Regardless of what VLAN you put it on, it would more than likely function much better on it's own.
