Network Monitoring tools for WAN/LAN

Does Cisco offer any downloads of Network monitoring tools for the WAN/LAN. We don't currently have any tools to perform network analysis. Can you recommend any or give me the links to download them.

We are experiencing some slowness in our WAN from time to time and we want to try and monitor that traffic without spending too much money.

Thanks, Robbie

If money is a concern, then the best product for the dollar is MRTG ( http://mrtg.hdl.com/mrtg.html ). It is free and grabs stats from your routers, switches, firewalls. If there is a MIB for it, MRTG can grab it. It will report (graph) on traffic in/out, packets in/out, errors, cpu, memory etc. Great tool to start with when money is tight, and you may find it's all you need so you may never end up buying something. Takes about 1 hour to install (windows or unix) and configure. Downside is that it polls devices every 5 minutes, can't go lower unless you have a programmer or someone to re-write code. You can increase the interval, but not make it less than 5 minutes.

Robbie,

you can use MRTG but check this URL for a free network monitoring tool:

http://www.llecointe.com/

It is very good and uses mrtg to draw utilisation reports.

You can download an Eval copy of Cisco Works for Windows from CCO which has Cisco View as one application. Cisco View have Real Time Graph feature which can be used for monitoring as well.

Another application is NMIS, It's available on the Cisco centric open source page @ http://cosi-nms.sourceforge.net/ It also has a few more packeages that are free. NMIS should be installed on Solaris or Linux of some sort.
