Permission denied during Catalyst 2950 boot

Hi:

When I try to boot my 2950, it return "permission denied" error. It will drop to the switch prompt, and if I do a "dir flash", it return "permission denied" again. Below is the output

This happened to one of our Cisco 2924XL switches some time ago. I don't know what went wrong and why, but just one day one of my colleagues told me that the switch is not working. I replaced it with another.

When I took a closer look to "broken switch", I noticed the same; it stopped in ROM monitor mode and I couldn't dir the flash memory. So I formatted it completely and downloaded new bin via serial cable and z-modem.

After that it worked fine and is still working.
