Hi,
Pls could anybody tell me about a system error %SYS-2-MALLOCFAIL of catalyst 3550?
It happens both on IOS ver 12.1.(19)EA1a and 12.1.(19)EA1c.
Which Ver of IOS do I need to change ?
Thanks in advance.

When does this error occur? Can you get it to happen by doing something? Malloc failures are usually software issues of some sort resulting in memory leak.
Theres a bug, CSCdz51522 which involves spannig tree and memory leak fixed in newer releases.
Bugs CSCec13716 or CSCeb22519 have this error but both were not reproducible according to bug navigator.
Latest IOS is 12.1(22). Might want to try that incase you're running into something not listed in bug navigator.

Thanks a million.
But where did you find the bugs with the codes of CSCec13716 and CSCeb22519.
I just can't find it on CCO.
Thanks again.

I also checked the unreproducable/closed option on the bug status section when searching.

Thanks.
I deem the problem is related with the unreproducible BUG. We have reported the ERROR information to CISCO, hopefully, they could give an answer.
Thanks again

You might want to upgrade the IOS on your CAT3550s to get past
