Question: 3560 switch - Hard coding fastethernet interfaces for 100M/Full

One end of the connection is a 6500 layer 3 switch; the fastethernet interface is hard coded for 100M/Full. The other end is a fastethernet 3560 switch. When I set the interace in the 3560 switch to 100M/full, I loose connevtivity to the 3650 switch. The 3560 switch only works if is in auto or if its interface is hard coded 100M/Half duplex. Has anyone experienced this issue? Is there a workaround? 3560 switches are running Version 12.2(25)SEB2.

Hi,

I had to deal with a similar situation a few months ago. After trying all different duplex combinations on both devices I felt cable might be the issue. Guess what, it was a bad cable. Try swapping the cable and let us know how that goes.

Even i faced the same problem. The new 2960 and the 3560 seems to have this odd behaviour.

It either needs to be left in auto negotiation mode or hard coded to 100 half.

One more thing i noticed was the connectivity is lost only when two switches are connected. The connectivity works fine when hardcoded to servers and desktops

That is exactly what happens.When I hard code both sides of the link (switches) to 100M/Full, I loose connectivity to the switch. Do you think is best to leave it in auto negotiate?

Do you know if there is a documented defect (bug) regarding this issue?

Hi,

Bad cabling is what we suspected at the beginning. Cables were replaced but made no difference. Now we having the same issue with multiple 3560 switches in different locations.

I dont know whether its a bug. But iam going to raise a tac case for the same.
