out of curiosity is there a way to compress specific traffic on your router via ACL or some other way? also how good is the compresssion?

One way to make this happen is to configure a VPN session between the routers and enable compression for the VPN session. Now you can specify the traffic that will use the VPN session. See the link below

But this method will eat up a lot of resources especially for the VPN.
