Is there an easy way to use a router to ping or scan a subnet to see what IP's are currently active.

you can try to ping the broadcast address of the subnet... the broadcast address is the last address of the subnet. You should receive a answer from the ip's which are in use. But.... not all devices are answering to directed broadcast

Hi Ten,
I use a simple extended ping to the broadcast address, one packet 40 bytes. I think 36 bytes is the minimum.
