I'm using a Catalyst 2900XL and 2950 for training and would like to find a way to reset the switches to their factory defaults, wiping away all configs, vtp, and vlan info.
Thanks,

Here is how we did it. First do a wr erase on the router and reload the box. Then delete the vlan.dat file from the root of flash. Reload the router once again. When you go into the vlan database a create a new vlan the vlan.dat file is created again.
I am sure there is an easier way to do it. But this seems to work.

Write erase wipes out the the config in nvram , then just reload the Catalyst switch and the config will be default .

We are using Catalyst 3500XL switches wich are simular to the 2900XL switches you are using.
This is what we do, delete the config.text and vlan.dat files. Perform a powercycle and the switch comes up as out of the box. It starts the interactive configuration session.

at the enable prompt, do a erase startup-conf
reload the switch and do not save the config if it asks.
switch will start with defaults and want to know if you want to enter the config.

Thanks for all your responses. I tried the suggestion put forth by cverheig (delete config.text and vlan.dat, restart switch). When you re-boot, it comes up with the setup dialog and everything is back to factory defaults.
Works for both the 2900XL and 2950 Catalyst switches.
