Hi,
When you do a Show IP interface brief command on a router and you get STATUS reset and PROTOCOL down on a Serial0/0:0. What does the RESET mean. I have always come across either UP/UP; Down/Down or UP/Down. Never come across Reset/Down. How do I get rid of this. I have tried to clear the interface but still does not work.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Jay

Is this a Token Ring Interface? If so, thete might be a hardware problem. See page 205 of Cisco Internetwork Troubleshooting.

I am getting the on my serial interface. Did hard loopback tests and it changed to UP/Down looped but when you reconnect with a straight cable to an mgx switch it changes it status to Reset/Down

Try this:
int s0/0
no keep
^z
After 10 seconds, the interface should go Up/Up (Looped). If not, then the interface hardware is toast.

Saw this problem on a live connection a few days ago - for some reason, it's poorly documented.
If your router hardware tests out OK, the carrier's equipment is probably at fault - we received "defective repeaters" as RFO.

No PTT is involved in this case. The router is directly connected to an MGX switch

I hope you are using a channelised E1 for this connection. If all the channelised interfaces are showing RESET, give a "show controllers e1" and see if it is showing up.Check the framing (CRC4) and line code too.
Give us these results if possible.

Yes I am using channelised. Anyway the problem is sorted we had incorrect framing on the MGX switch.
Thank you to all for you suggestions
