I have installed the CiscoWorks 2000 bundle on a dedicated Dell machine 4 way 1.4 GHZ 2 GB RAM and it works fine on the local machine. When I connect using my browser on my desktop, I takes a painfully long time to bring anything up. My browser is IE6.0.

Make sure that you're using the correct Java Plug-in 1.3.1 and if there are any Virus Scanner apps installed on the Client, disable them for time being.Are you connecting to the CW2K server via any Proxy?

The Java plug in is correct, and I tried disabling the antivirus to no avail. It works fine on the server itself. I am running IE 6.0 with service pk 1

I just had this issue with a customer. Problem was corrected by changing the KeepAlive value on the Server in the httpd.conf file.
Here is the BUG info.
Problem:
========
It has been seen that Ciscoworks when installed on certain hardware, has a very
slow response when it tried to be accessed remotely.
NOTE: It responds _fine_ when you log in locally on the box.
This has been witnessed on Multi CPU Machine with HyperThreading Enabled.
Symptoms:
=========
Takes a couple of minutes to even get the login prompt of ciscoworks, and
various
java applets just fail to even come up.
Workaround:
===========
In
Change :
KeepAlive Off
to
KeepAlive On
Stop and Restart the
Apache WebServer &
JRUNProxyServer

I have the same problems with the Apache server.
After i have set in the http.conf -file the Value of the Variable "HostnameLookups" to "off" , the cw2000 was fast.

Had similar problems but solved it without making changes to the http file (wish I had known it before -- no one from TAC mentioned it)
My problem was solved with the way my proxy server was setup. Under IE > Tools > Lan settings > I cancelled the bypass proxy for local address' and it was fine. Now this is not normal. What I would suggest you do is the opposite , check mark the bypass proxy and even go to the advanced and enter in the ip add of your server in the exceptions box.
This info is only good if you are using a proxy.
