Could someone please tell me the difference for these? What does it realy mean when someone says " You can perform a soft loop". Any info would be great regarding this hard/soft loops.

Basically, Soft loop is a logical loop on the CSU/DSU and Hardware loop is a loop back connecter with WAN interface ,for example, V.35.

in the above url we read: Note: All loopback testing is done with hdlc encapsulation.
does this mean we can't make a soft loop with PPP encapsulation?
