I have what hopefully is an easy question.
In a Sup720, I have a bootflash: and sup-bootflash:. In order to make room for a new native IOS image I moved the image from bootflash to sup-bootflash:. However, the "boot system flash" was still referencing bootflash:
Naturally, when the switch was reloaded, it couldn't find any images in bootflash: and dumped into ROMMON. Here's what I have tried without success in ROMMON:
1. Attempted to "dir sup-bootflash:" but it doesn't recognize the file system
2. Attmepted to "boot sup-bootflash:c720-(filename)" with no success
3. TFTP'ing from ROMMON isn't available
4. Tried to Xmodem the image, but the connection fails
It seems many of the old tricks for image recovery for the supervisor 720 don't work anymore.
Anyone have any suggestions for recovery? Or how to boot off of sup-bootflash: from ROMMON?
Thanks!
Tanner

When you are in rommon you are in the supervisor , so you would only have to issue "boot bootflash:

Looks like it I had it backwards.
When the switch was fully booted, I moved it from sup-bootflash: to bootflash:
So now, when it tries to boot from the SP's bootflash: it can't find the image and sits in ROMmon. When I boot:
System Bootstrap, Version 8.1(3)
Copyright (c) 1994-2004 by cisco Systems, Inc.
Cat6k-Sup720/SP processor with 524288 Kbytes of main memory
Autoboot executing command: "boot
bootflash:s72033-pk9sv-mz.122-17d.SXB6.bin"
Loading image, please wait ...
open(): Open Error = -9
loadprog: error - on file open
boot: cannot load "bootflash:s72033-pk9sv-mz.122-17d.SXB6.bin"
rommon 2 > dir bootflash:
File size Checksum File name
rommon 3 > boot
boot: cannot determine first file name on device "bootflash:"
So, if I could only get to the RP ROMmon, it seems like I could boot it off RP bootflash:

Tanner,
Your sup doesnot have any file that's why it is in rommon. Now there are 2 ways to recover this :
1. Try booting sup with a PCMCIA card.
2. Try x-modem the main image.
Now for the first option you have to have atleast 64 MB PCMCIA ATA card as the file size is more than 40 MB for the sup 720 IOS.
For the second option as I said that the file size is too big that's why ur xmodem got cancelled. Try x-modem a small cat OS image that is arnd 7 or 8 MB and then get the sup back up booted with CAT OS and then TFTP the main image IOS back to the sup bootflash and boot it from there.
Remeber one thing that in NATIVE IOS the main image have to be on SUP's bootflash. Never move it from there.

Yeah, I think you're right. We're going to have to get a PCMCIA card.
The smallest CatOS image for Sup720 was about 13MB, and that failed to transfer via Xmodem.
Thanks.
